Options weighed — movable pots (flexible, needy), built planter boxes (crisp, modern), or bordered mounded beds (natural, traditional, the likely winner) — and a planting direction chosen: evergreen species that shrug off Korean winters, anchored by a juniper in bonsai style as the courtyard’s sculptural centerpiece. A hanok garden should look composed, not decorated.
