Porcelain Day: Toilets, Basins, and a ₩450,000 Install

Day sixty-six. The bathrooms received their occupants: porcelain, mirrors, taps — the objects guests will actually touch.

The install, professionally staged. Two installers hired via Soomgo (Korea’s trades-matching app) worked about eight hours: three toilets, two basins, the bath’s tap set, plus the constellation of small hardware — towel bars, tissue holders, mirrors, upper cabinets. ₩450,000 total, against the market benchmark we now know: roughly ₩100,000 per toilet installed.

Our contribution was choreography: large fixtures dictate their own positions, but every small item had its location pre-marked on the wall and the hardware itself staged at that exact spot. The installers never once stopped to ask where something went. Watching the crew move through pre-answered rooms confirmed the doctrine from tile week — the client’s preparation is the specialist’s speed.

The bit that burns. Day’s technical discovery, acquired through smoke: reinforced tile does not drill with ordinary bits. It requires dedicated carbide tile bits — and even those overheat in seconds, so you drill in pulses, cooling the bit in water between them. Without the right bit the hole simply doesn’t happen; the bit chars, the tile shrugs. Brief this before your installer arrives with hanging hardware on the list.

First coat: complete. The whole-house first coat reached 100% today, and with it, the complete confession of the walls: every board tear, every skipped putty line, glowing through the fresh white. All of it got flagged and Handycoated in one consolidated repair pass — the efficient rhythm being mark during painting, repair in batch, then second-coat — rather than stopping the roller at each flaw. The remaining color unevenness (putty lines whiter than board fields) is exactly what coat two exists to erase.

Toilets that flush, taps that run, mirrors that reflect a house nearly done.
